Baseball earns split with Mansfield; Botts powers Haven to game two win

LOCK HAVEN, PA.The Lock Haven University Baseball team split a doubleheader with Mansfield today at a cold and windy Foundation Field.
 
Lock Haven (12-25, 4-20 PSAC East), who was the away team in both games today, dropped game one to the Mounties (19-20, 7-17 PSAC East), 11-9.  The Haven battled back to take game two, however, 7-6 thanks to a seventh inning go-ahead homerun by Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.)
 
Game One Recap:
 
Eight different Bald Eagles logged a hit, and The Haven out-hit Mansfield, 15-10 in game one, but LHU fell 11-9.
 
Tyler Yesensky (Endwell, N.Y./Old Dominion Univ.) and Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) each went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead LHU.
 
Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) hit his second homerun of the year, a second inning solo shot to left field.
 
Botts was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the loss.
 
Brandon Miller drove in four RBIs and Johnny Leclair added three RBIs for Mansfield.
 
Game Two Recap:
 
Lock Haven led the Mounties, 6-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game when Taylor Hillson and Seth Tressler rallied Mansfield with a double and single to tie the game at, 6-6.
 
With one out in the seventh, Botts came to the plate and crushed one up into the left field jet stream to give LHU the, 7-6 lead.
 
The homer was Botts' team-leading fifth of the season.
 
Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) shut down MU in the bottom of the inning to seal the win for LHU.
 
Botts went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the game.
 
Yesensky was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the win.
 
The Bald Eagles close out the season this weekend when The Haven takes on Shippensburg for a four game series.  Lock Haven will travel to Shippensburg on Friday (April 25) and LHU will host the Red Raiders on Saturday (April 26) at Foundation Field.
